I’m Back From My First Camping Trip of the Season
Hi Everybody! Last week my husband and I took our first camping trip of the year to Devil’s Lake State Park near Baraboo, Wisconsin (the southwestern part of the state - near Madison).
The weather was gorgeous. It was in the low 80’s and sunny the entire time were were there. Plus it was really quiet because there were only a handful of people staying in the campground and there are over 400 sites in the park. At night, all we heard was the crackle of our campfire and the chirping of the crickets and other bugs in the nearby woods (I heard my husband snoring too but if you ask him about it he’ll tell you he didn’t hear a thing).
We got lots of exercise in. We walked and hiked nearly 5 miles the first full day we were there; a little over 3 miles the second day; and over 6 miles the third day. I feel like I should have lost 10 pounds with all the exercise I got, but I’ll be happy if I’ve lost 2 or 3 which I’ll find out tomorrow when I weigh in at my weekly Weight Watchers meeting.
And, we took a picture of every campsite in the campground. I’ll work on getting those edited and put on this website during the next couple of weeks so you can see what each campsite looks like in case you are thinking of camping there. I always like to see the campsites before I decide which one to book, but pictures of campsites at state campgrounds are hard to find so I’m going to do my best to get pictures of all the campsites at the Wisconsin State parks taken and posted for everyone to look at. I probably won’t get all the parks done this year but my goal is to get at least 8 or 9 done for you - especially the biggest and/or most popular ones like Devil’s Lake, Peninsula State Park in Door County, Kohler-Andrae on Lake Michigan, and Governor Dodge State Park near Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
If you have any campground or campsite pictures to share, please send them to me at: camp@campingearth.com and I’ll get them posted on the website.
I’ll post my entire diary of the trip in this blog tomorrow. Although the trip was a lot of fun, we had a few minor “bumps in the road” to deal with.
If you go camping in Wisconsin though, put a camping trip to Devil’s Lake on your list. You’ll enjoy it there. It has beautiful scenery and there’s lots of stuff to do.
