I saw the yard flag in the picture below while camping over Memorial Day weekend and thought it was so cute that I searched online for it this morning and bought one for myself.
The flag is 14 inches by 18 inches and is stitched weather resistant nylon.
It is just the right size for decorating a campsite.
I found it at Oriental Trading Company for $4.95 plus shipping.
Although I don’t usually hang put up decorations while camping I always enjoy seeing what everyone else has, so I am finally giving in and am going to start my own collection of decorations to put up.
The next thing I am going to look for is some cute camping lights. I’ll post a link if I find some.
While camping over Memorial Day weekend we tried a new kind of Smore. At least it was new for us.
I found some good strawberries while shopping for groceries for the trip and had them out on the picnic table to snack on. They happened to be sitting out when we started making smores over the campfire so I decided to try fresh strawberries on one.
It was so good! By the end of the weekend everyone was eating them and had decided to call them Marshberries.
They are easy to make. Here’s how to do it.
MARSHBERRY S’MORE RECIPE
Ingredients for each Smore:
1 whole graham cracker broken in half
3 sections of a Hershey milk chocolate bar
2 marshmallows
1 or 2 strawberries (depending on size) sliced lengthwise
Directions:
Put a single layer of strawberries on one cracker half. Top with the Hershey chocolate.
Roast 2 marshmallows over the fire until golden brown and gooey. Place on top of the chocolate.
Cover with the second cracker half.
Eat immediately.
With over 22,000 places to pitch a tent, you’re sure to have plenty of options if you decide to go camping in main. Now if you haven’t had a chance yet, make sure you pick up the Maine Camping Guide available for free from the Maine Campground Owners Association.
But if you’re looking for some place that’s both picturesque and right on the water, then one place worth checking our is Camden Hills State Park in the mid-coast region of Maine.
Camden Hills State Park is a 5,500 acre park that offers 30 miles of hiking and trails. It offers sweeping views of Camden, Penobscot Bat, and surrounding islands, and on a clear day you might even catch a glimpse of Cadillac Mountain. And you won’t be too far from civilization as the small New England town of Camden is just a few minutes to the south.
You can even take a ferry to the islands on the Maine State Ferry Service.
And one thing that I always appreciate in a campground – hot showers and modern restrooms – are both available in the park.
