Several Michigan State Parks Offering Free Camper Storage

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering campers short term parking for their RV, camping trailer, or boat and trailer at several of their state parks and recreation areas.

The new program is designed to help campers save on gasoline costs.

Unfortunately, the storage is very short term; a maximum of 15 days at a time.

And, to use the storage program campers have to show proof of a recent camping stay at a Michigan State Park Campground (within a week).

It sounds like a good program for people who camp at the same state park several times during the summer camping season.

The good news about the program is that the storage is free. However, if someone exceeds the 15 day limit they will be assessed a $4 a day storage fee and may also be prohibited from using the storage program again. In addition, any units left longer than 30 days will be considered abandoned property.

The program is also only available during the summer camping season - from May 15 to September 15.

For a list of parks participating in the storage program (there are 30), along with how many storage spaces are available (some have as few as 2) click here.
