I’m always looking for products that make Rv’ing and camping easier and more fun and I’m kind-of a YouTube junkie. Today, while looking around YouTube I found this video from Living in Style. It showcases two of Coil ‘n Wrap’s products: Xtreme Vents and a one-piece hose and faucet connector.
While I don’t own an RV (I have a popup camper and sometimes tent camp), the Xtreme vents look like they could solve a “stinky” problem. If you’ve tried them, please post in the comments section and let us know what you think of them and whether or not you recommend them.
The other product in the video, the one piece hose and faucet connector, does look handy for camping but I’m thinking about purchasing it for use at my house. Now, if my plants would only water themselves……..
KOA campgrounds accross the United States are having their annual free night of camping on Saturday May 10, 2008.
The catch is, in order to get the free night of camping you have to stay as a paid guest the night before (Friday, May 9, 2008).
The free camping night is KOA’s fundraiser for their KOA Care Camps for children with cancer. There are 35 KOA Care Camps located throughout the United States. They offer childen with cancer and their siblings the opportunity to experience a fun summer camping outing while continuing their medical treatments.
Campers who register for this special weekend called “Come Camp & Care With Us Weekend” will be entered in a drawing for two grand prize camping packages from KOA that include a week of free camping at any KOA campground and a package of camping supplies.
The free night of camping event raised over $225,000 in 2007.
To find more information about the event, see which KOA campgrounds are participating, or to make reservations, go to the KOA Website by clicking here.
Sara and Matt Janssen along with their daughter Bella are traveling across the United States in their environmentally friendly RV, and are making stops along the way to educate people on ways to live greener and tread more lightly on the earth. Their current plans are to tour until September of 2008.
Some of the things their RV has to make it more “earth friendly” are:
- bamboo flooring (which is sustainable)
- sunflower seed countertops held together with a soy based resin
- environmentally friendly paint on the walls
- partial solar on the roof (they are going full solar soon)
- a hand carnk washing machine
- a fuel system that runs on old vegetable oil although they do still need to use some diesel fuel (The diesel is needed to start the engine; then they convert to the vegetable oil; and then back to diesel before shutting the engine down).
They get used vegetable oil from restaurants as they’re traveling and they have a GPS system on board to help them find restaurants to get the oil from (the Janssen’s say Chinese restaurants are a good source). They focus on the Mom and Pop type restaurants who don’t already have a vendor to dispose of their oil and take the oil off their hands for them. Matt says it’s a “win win” situation because they get the oil for free to use in their RV and the restaurant doesn’t have to pay for its disposal.
I think what they are doing is great. A lot of people are interested in living a greener lifestyle and the Janssen’s are showing people how to do it without sacrificing comfort.
