Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler Recipe

Peaches are at their peak right now so it’s a great time to make peach cobbler in a dutch oven. Here’s a recipe I got from a camp host when we were camping earlier this year.

DUTCH OVEN PEACH COBBLER
Ingredients:
3 1/2 pounds peaches sliced (also peeled if you prefer)
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
water
1 cup granulated sugar (add a little more if the peaches are tart and not quite ripe)
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 stick butter (don’t substitute margarine)

Put the peaches and corn starch in the dutch oven. Stir to coat the peaches. Place them over coals at medium low heat until the peaches are tender.

Meanwhile, in a separate bowl combine the Bisquick with just enough water to make it sticky. Spoon over the top of the peaches.

Cover the dutch oven and put twice as many coals on the top of it as you have on the bottom (here’s info on how many coals to use for the size oven you have and the amount of heat you want).

Cook for 25 minutes or until the biscuits are lightly browned.

While that’s cooking, in a separate pan melt the butter; then add the sugar and cinnamon. Pour over the top of the cobbler after the biscuits are lightly browned. Cook for another five minutes.

Serve the cobbler while it’s still warm.

Celebrities Like To RV and Camp Too

Camping is one of my favorite things to do. Within the next 15 years, my goal is to have a larger motorhome and travel around the country seeing the sights and meeting new people for several months a year. And, it’s not just regular people like me who really enjoy the RV’ing and camping.

There are celebrities who feel the same way. And truly, why wouldn’t they? It’s a great way to see the country, spend time with friends and family or to enjoy some quiet alone time, and is a great way for celebrities to travel without having to deal with a lot of media following them and intruding on their privacy.

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) compiled quotes from several celebrities who enjoy RV’ing:

Matthew McConaughey: “Staying at the RV park. Meet the neighbors. Have a barbeque. We met some interesting characters; some great people. It’s a great way to see the country.”

Paul Newman: “My RV is the only place where I can find some peace and quiet.”

Jeff Gordon:
“One of the reasons so many [NASCAR] drivers are using RVs is that we’re not always in places where you can stay in a nice hotel. The RV is your home away from home. It allows you to stay focused.”

Robert De Niro: Airline travel being what it is these days – so unreliable. I’ll feel much more comfortable knowing I have my own posturepedic bed; my own thermostat; my own lavatory facility.”

John Ratzenberger: “RVing changed our family for the better. Instead of playing video games my son was out learning new things in the RV.”

David Letterman: “[RVing] is a nice activity, because it’s you and the wife and the kids and you go everywhere.”

Dolly Parton: “My husband and I have a little RV that we travel around in. We enjoy [RVing]. We enjoy the outdoors and we love to drive.”

Jeff Daniels: “I just enjoy kind of the whole RV thing. I’ve had RVs forever and of course on movie sets you live in those things.”

Rob Lowe: My kids love riding around in these big [RVs] — like an old fashioned American road trip like when I was a kid.”

A Handy Exterior Portable Sink For Your RV

Dirt and camping pretty much go together. When I go camping, I always have bunches of disposable wipes handy along with a couple of extra dishpans, but I’m always on the lookout for something that creates less garbage and is more convenient.

The Sink-Away from DWIncorp.com seems like just the thing I’ve been looking for. They’ve come up with an RV sink designed for the one place it’s needed most - outside.

sink away

According to information from their website:”Self-contained, portable Sink-Away mounts almost anywhere on RV exteriors….It’s ideal for washing hands, paws, faced and fresh food - even for cleaning fish.”

It sounds like a good idea to me. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it looks like installing the frame the sink attaches to requires drilling screws into the side of the RV.
