Truck Campers Have Evolved

When I was a kid my cousins had a truck camper that their parents used to take them on weekend fishing and hunting trips several times a year. To say it was cozy was an understatement. It wasn’t possible for two people to walk around in it without bumping into each other at every turn. In fact, the actual floor space in it was minimal.

That has all changed though. Check out the floor plan for this truck camper from Okanagan. It has a slideout area that includes a dining area, a six to ten foot refrigerator and a wardrobe for storage. There’s a lot of actual floor space for a truck camper. It even has an electric fold down tent enclosure with a foam mattress bed if you need extra sleeping room for family or friends. Even the bathroom has adequate space and is a lot different than the bathroom my cousins had where the toilet was stainless steel and was also where you sat to take a shower and and to use the sink to brush your teeth. It is pretty darn nice.

Vintage Airstreams for Celebrities

Last weekend while at a camping show I spent a considerable amount of time drooling over the Airstream travel trailers. While there I met a new owner of an Airstream who was helping out the dealership for the weekend.

We started talking about the vintage Airstream travel trailers because if there’s one thing Airstream does really well it’s building their campers and travel trailers to last a long time, much longer than any other camper and RV on the market.

We both knew people who had purchased vintage (old) Airstream travel trailers, fixed them up, and are using them for all their camping trips.

He said the vintage Airstream travel trailer bug is hitting celebrities too. He told me several celebrities have purchased old Airstream travel trailers, have had them gutted, and then redone to be posh personal trailers for them to use while shooting movies on location. I guess some celebrities know a good thing when they see it.

Upcoming RV and Camper Shows

Yesterday I wrote about how much fun and how informative RV and Camping shows are. I thought it would probably be even more helpful if you knew where and when some of the upcoming shows are. There’s a decent listing at gorving.com although the list isn’t all-inclusive because it didn’t have the Milwaukee RV and Camping show listed, which is a large one that I attended last weekend.

A few other online resources to check out for RV and Camper show listings that I found are:

thecampingsource

rvusa

This is the best time of year to find camping shows in your area and is also a great time to buy. Most dealers are offering special incentive pricing right now.
